From Craig: That's a great, and somewhat familiar story! It might be more meaningful and funny now than it was then. I remember the stress I experienced when you insisted on helping cook, and seeing you in that kitchen with a house full of hungry soldiers and friends.
You're right. All of them were well fed, and happy with whatever they ate. More than that, they all were thankful to have had a home, and good friends to share Thanksgiving with. I'm sure it beat grabbing a tray at the mess hall-grey potatoes and all!
I think we were most blessed to have a home we could open to others who were away from their own. Having them with us helped me to feel the true spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas both.
I'm thankful to you for the unexpected reminder, and for the wonderful memories we'll always share.
